Ein Kerem offers a different pace of touring.
This picturesque and peaceful Jerusalem neighborhood, surrounded by greenery, sits on the remains of the biblical village of Beit HaKerem and is traditionally identified as the birthplace of John the Baptist.
During the tour, we wander through stone alleys, impressive churches, and natural springs, while exploring stories of Christian tradition, local culture, and art.
Along the way, we encounter artists’ studios, galleries, and optional culinary stops, creating a walk that blends spirit, landscape, and everyday life.

Tour Highlights

Church of the Visitation

We begin our tour with an uphill walk to the Church of the Visitation, designed by architect Antonio Barluzzi. From here, sweeping views open over the Jerusalem hills as we explore the story of the meeting between Mary and Elizabeth and the traditions associated with this sacred site.

Mary’s Spring

We descend to the small but meaningful spring traditionally identified as the place where Mary met Elizabeth. This stop connects water, daily life, and faith, showing how a natural spring became a pilgrimage site over time.

Church of St. John in the Mountains

We visit the site traditionally identified as the birthplace of John the Baptist. Through architecture, archaeology, and tradition, we explore his story, his connection to Jesus, and how sacred memory is preserved through generations.

Sisters of Zion Convent

A quiet and lesser-known stop offering a glimpse into monastic life and the modern Christian presence in Ein Kerem. Here we explore how the neighborhood became a meeting point of faith, culture, and international communities.

Visit to Local Artists

We meet Ein Kerem of today through local artists, ceramic studios, and small galleries, with optional culinary stops along the way. This is where history meets contemporary creativity and everyday life.

Entrance to an Ancient House in Ein Kerem

We step into a historic stone house and travel back to village life of the past. Through traditional architecture and personal stories, we uncover another layer of Ein Kerem’s unique identity.

Optional Walk: Yemenite Valley and the Community Garden

For those who wish, the tour can extend into the Yemenite Valley and the community garden. This gentle walk passes through green terraces and a peaceful valley, offering a relaxed ending that connects landscape, community, and living local stories.

JMU Birthright Experience I went on a birthright trip from late December into early January and Gal was our tour guide! She gracefully gave swift and accurate remarks regarding every city and destination we went to through out this experience. Some of her feats included recounting 2,000 years of Jerusalem history in under 2 minutes and crafting an incredibly engaging story about the tribulations on Masada. An incredible trip that taught me so much more about our history! Wow what an INCREDIBLE trip and a lot of that had to do with our time spent with Gal! We thank you so much for being an amazing guide during our trip and educating us further on the history of Masada (never knew about king Herod!) , the kotel/old city history and the dead sea. I only knew so much as an American Jew visiting Israel but experiencing important parts with a guide that became a friend is HIGHLY recommended. will absolutely recommend Gal as a guide not only here but also to friends going to Israel. Up to one week before the tour, you can cancel free of charge, with the reservation fee returned minus the processing fee – less than one week before the tour date – 50% of the total price of the tour. Less than 72 hours before the tour date – nonrefundable.

Up to 72 hours before the tour, you can cancel free of charge, with the reservation fee returned minus the processing fee. Less than 72 hours before the tour date – nonrefundable.

Cancellation without fees:
In case of unforeseen circumstances (natural causes, governmental or societal actions or infrastructure failures), no fee will be paid, and the reservation fee will be returned to the customer.

Please note that all open group tours are subject to a minimum number of participants. We make every effort to operate our scheduled tours and avoid cancellations whenever possible. However, if the minimum number of participants is not met, the tour may be cancelled. In such cases, participants will be notified no later than 72 hours before the scheduled departure, and any payments made will be refunded in full.
