Tour Highlights
We will start the tour of the museum with a visit to the archeological wing: we will wander among the thousands of different finds from the archeological excavations in Israel, along with photographs and replicas of finds from nearby places, with a desire to understand the material culture in the country in its broad context. From the days of the pharaohs to the Turks – we will be exposed to finds from every period: Herodian candles, Roman inscriptions, ancient stamps, and more.
After visiting the archeological wing, we will go to the arts wing. The museum has a permanent exhibition, in addition to rotating exhibitions of many works of art, and another special wing of Jewish art.
If we have children in a group, or children at heart, they will surely enjoy a visit to the Education Wing, which has exhibits that also combine activities and experiences. In this wing, there are also various experience workshops that combine knowledge with the senses.
From there we will continue to the Jerusalem model at the end of the Second Temple period, which was planned and designed by Professor Avi Yonah. The model is very impressive in its details and gives a broad picture of the city of Jerusalem in the first century. The model is based on studies as well as archeological finds in the field, and literature from the period. As the years go by and the research develops, the model itself also changes.
Our last stop will be at the Book Hall, where two ancient and moving books are kept: one, is a scroll from two thousand years ago discovered in the Judean Desert, with Parshas and books from the Bible written on it, as well as external books, and some books unfamiliar to us before the find. And the second, is a bible similar to the biblical version accepted today, from the 11th century. These two ancient writings have been given a place of honor in the Shrine of the Book, where they are carefully preserved for the visitors
