In the center of Tel Aviv, in the heart of neighborhoods within the city that has earned the dubious title of “the most expensive city in the world,” is the old Carmel Market.
The market was established at the beginning of the 20th century, not many years after the city of Tel Aviv was separated from its native mother – Jaffa, by wealthy Jews who fled Russia. The market in its various incarnations is experiencing ups and downs, but in recent years there has been a noticeable “facelift”, and the new stalls are part of the same process. The Carmel Market is a wonderful opportunity for a meeting of cultures – Hungarian pastries, Turkish sweets, natural juices, ancient Yemeni medical recipes, and much more.
